How To Get An ID Card In South Carolina

In order to South Carolina ID card, you need to complete a number of important steps when applying. In order to simplify the process, you will need to gather the necessary documents, calculate your required fee payment before being able to obtain a South Carolina identification card. South Carolina ID card credentials are official documents issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles that serve as authorized photo IDs in the absence of a driving license. The department issues new identification cards in South Carolina only to applicants who fulfill the full set of DMV ID requirements. As proof of residency, ID card applicants will be required to submit a document such as a weapon’s permit, a current DMV credential or a tax record.

Noncitizens getting a state ID in SC, on the other hand, will have to submit a different set of documents for new ID cards, which will be used to verify their authorized stay within the country. Obtaining state ID cards in South Carolina is a procedure that can be completed by submitting the ID card form and the supporting documentation in person through a local DMV office. Note that noncitizens will be able to apply for ID card credentials only through specific DMV locations that offer ID card services to international applicants. One of the final steps in the South Carolina ID card application procedure is paying the current ID card cost. The price of a new ID card in SC will vary based on the applicant’s age.

If you are applying for an ID card when you are at least 17 years of age, you will receive your new credential free of charge. Applicants 16 years of age or younger will be required to pay a DMV ID price of $5. Note that REAL ID cards in SC will cost the same as the standard version when they become available for purchase.

Specialty license plates for DUI Offenders. Select Insurance can help

In Ohio, what is popularly referred to as DUI is referred to as OVI meaning, operating a vehicle under the Influence. According the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s records, the past five months in the 2016 have report a high rate of DUI reporting 10,586 offences. These statics clearly indicate the seriousness of DUI. It is no wonder then that the law in Ohio treats DUI cases with the seriousness it deserves. 04% BAC. If you fall under any of the categories stated and have a BAC level equal to or higher than the specified levels, then you are DUI in Ohio. 1st refusal 1 year license suspension 2nd refusal 2 years license suspension 3rd refusal 3 years license suspension.

CDL holders do not have a chance for a second DUI, once you commit your second DUI, your license may be revoked for life. Generally vehicular manslaughter occurs when a DUI driver cause the death of another while operating a vehicle. If you are DUI and have no license or are driving with a suspended license, the court may suspend your license for up to a year, you may go to jail for up to six months and you will pay up to $1,000 in fines. Once you are convicted of a DUI offence the court will order you to acquire a SR22. A SR22 is not an insurance policy.

It is important to note that DUI drivers have the tendency to scare away insurance providers. For DUI drivers a special ‘clause’ is added to the many determinants. DUI, driving without insurance, DUI minors among many others are our specialty.

White Privilege Fail…

The key word here is subtly – if a white person applies for a great job and, during the interview, boldly informs the employer that they are perfect for the job because they are white, they probably are not going to get the job. The racial inequity in our justice system is well-documented, and racial bias, conscious or unconscious, impacts decisions ranging from whether to charge a person, prosecute a person, offer pretrial diversion or a prison sentence, to the length of the person’s prison sentence. In most states, Black people are incarcerated in prison at an average rate 5.1 times greater than Whites;. In 12 states, including South Carolina, more than half the prison population is Black. In 11 states, 1 in 20 adult Black males is in prison; and.

At least for the charging decisions, white privilege did not save her this time – after blowing a.18 on the breathalyzer, she was arrested and charged with DUI, speeding, disregarding a stop sign, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. I get that non-Whites in America have been subjugated, suppressed, and abused for centuries and that the effect of white supremacy, explicit or implicit, is still at work today. For White people, that means acknowledging that we are and have always been privileged and that the opportunities that have been provided for me have been denied to others. It’s not about dragging me down, or dragging down any middle class white person – it’s not a threat to you, me, or any other white person. It’s about lifting up other groups of people and making the same opportunities available to every person.

White privilege is experienced from childhood through old age – when you can walk down the street in a suburb or saunter through a department store without suspicious looks, you can survive a traffic stop without fear of being shot and killed, when you apply for a job or admission to a university or ask for credit to buy a car or a home. Criminal Defense Lawyer in Charleston, SC. Charleston criminal defense attorney Grant B. Smaldone focuses his practice on criminal defense cases in SC state and federal courts.

Frequency of Tractor Trailer Accidents

According to national statistics, there were 104,000 people injured in accidents involving tractor trailers, 18-wheel trucks, or other large commercial vehicles. While commercial vehicles count for 9% or less of the serious or fatal vehicle accidents every year, that number is still far too high, and tractor trailer and trucking companies and drivers must take responsibility to help prevent those accidents. While the average personal vehicle weighs 3,000 pounds, a tractor trailer can weigh 80,000 lbs on a regulator basis. Worse, many commercial trucking companies pressure their drivers to work longer hours than legal, or drive faster than is safe for such large vehicles, which means that large trucks are too often unsafe on roads. Because Charleston, South Carolina is one of the largest ports in the US, tractor trailers frequently use the highways to pick up or deliver goods.

This means that South Carolina residents are at greater risk than many US citizens of being in a tractor trailer accident. Just being on the road in an oversized vehicle like an 18-wheeler or a tractor trailer requires special training and extra attention. Truck drivers must be careful of distractions, exhaustion, trailer sway, and many other factors. While it is important for the average driver to avoid using cell phones or smart phones, or make sure to pull over when they get tired on long road trips, it is much more important for tractor trailer drivers to do so. Some tractor trailer drivers still commit distracted driving, or drive while drunk, while tired, or speed in unsafe conditions, which can lead to a devastating tractor trailer accident.

If you suffered serious personal injury, or a loved one died, as a result of a car accident with a tractor trailer, you may face huge medical bills and lost time at work. The tractor trailer accident victims’ attorneys at the Strom Law Firm offer free consultations to evaluate your tractor trailer accident case, so contact us today for help.

Steinberg Law Firm Expands Annual Bike Safety Campaign for Kids

Charleston, SC August 8, 2018 – Steinberg Law Firm continues its efforts to prevent cycling and rollerblading accidents with its annual campaign that provides safety equipment and tips to Charleston-area kids. The 2018 Safe on Wheels campaign will distribute about 3,000 helmets along with reflective wear and bike lights, which is triple the amount donated in 2017, its inaugural year. The law firm has grown its bike safety program, which involves attorneys, school staff and police officers instructing students on how to ride safely. Steinberg Law Firm attorney Thomas M. White, a bicyclist himself, began the initiative after seeing the rising liability with the increasing amount of traffic in the area.

When a rider is not wearing protective gear, the odds of a bike accident leading to a serious head or spine injury significantly increase. Each year, over 300,000 students go to the emergency room due to a bicycle or rollerblading accident, and about 10,000 of those hospital visits require stays of a few days. Kids in underprivileged neighborhoods are more likely to suffer a serious injury because they often lack the proper safety equipment. This year’s Safe on Wheels campaign gives free helmets and related gear to the students at College Park Elementary, Goodwin Elementary and Devon Forest Elementary Schools. The personal injury attorneys at Steinberg Law Firm are committed to helping their community grow as safely as possible, taking steps to prevent injuries before they occur.

North Charleston Truck Accidents Triggered by Failing Brakes

A study sponsored by Department of Transportation found that 29.4% of all big vehicle crashes involved brake failure, brakes out of adjustment, or other brake-related problems. If you are injured in a truck crash where brakes or tires faling caused or contributed to the crash, it is very important to talk to a North Charleston truck accident lawyer. Brakes in tractor-trailers are different compared to those systems found in passenger vehicles. One primary difference is that several tractor-trailers have air brake systems where the various components collaborate to create and also keep a supply of pressed air that is used to transfer stress from the vehicle drivers’ control to the service brake. The Brake Supplier: The federal government has actually imposed strict laws on the security of truck stopping systems.

A vehicle must have the ability to: develop a particular braking pressure, decelerate to a quit from 20 miles per hour at a price particular to its size, and also meet the automated brake modification system needs. If truck brakes do not meet these government requirements, a victim of a trucking accident could have a case against the manufacturer. Generally, these claims can be found in 2 types: the producer did not design the brakes correctly or the brakes were properly developed, yet some flaw happened in the manufacturing procedure. Vehicle drivers as well as Trucking Companies: In some instances, activities of the vehicle driver or trucking business can trigger the brakes to fail. Depowering the front brakes: Some owner-operator truck drivers purposely unhook or depower the front brakes on the vehicle and rely only on the brakes of the trailer as well as downshifting to quit or slow the automobile.

Improper loading: If the truck load is not equally distributed, the brakes might get too hot and also malfunction. At the Hartman Law Firm, our team of experienced truck accident lawyers has successfully helped many truck accident victims obtain the compensation they deserve for their injuries and related losses.

Do I Have a Car Accident Injury Case?

Most car crashes are pretty straight forward and result in only short-term injuries and minor damage to the car. If you have been the victim of a car accident that left your car damaged or totaled and left you with injuries and/or permanent disabilities, and medical bills, it is important that you talk to a car accident lawyer to learn about your legal options for obtaining compensation. If you are involved in a car crash that results in serious injuries, substantial medical bills, lost wages and vehicle property damages. A simple whiplash injury can cause a disc injury in your neck that can worsen and later begin triggering nerves causing pain, numbness and tingling in your arms down into your fingers. Too often a person injured in a car crash will focus on the injury causing them the most discomfort at the time, like a broken bone or a severe bruise, and they will fail to mention other less severe or bothersome injuries.

Even a minor injury may become serious, but it may be too late to seek compensation for it if it was not noted in your initial medical records. Do not confuse your personal injury claim with your property damage claim. You have the right to settle you property damage claim without having to settle your personal injury claim at the same time. This information will be helpful in deciding whether you should explore the possibility of settling your case with the insurance company on your own or hire a personal injury lawyer. A personal injury attorney at Steinberg Law Firm can work with you to choose the avenue that will secure you the maximum compensation possible in a car accident injury case.

At the Steinberg Law Firm you can always call for a free consultation to discuss whether you have a car accident injury case worth pursuing. Our experienced personal injury lawyers can review your case and advise you how best to proceed.

A Columbia man was killed in a DUI-related crash this weekend, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. The crash happened around 9 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 178 near Forts Pond Road in Pelion, Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a release Sunday night. Robert Andrew Mays, 40, of Columbia, died at an area hospital earlier Sunday. Mays was the passenger in a vehicle that was traveling east on U.S. 178 when the driver tried to pass another car, swerved back into the right lane and lost control of the car, Fisher said.

The vehicle exited the right side of the roadway, hit a ditch and overturned several times. The driver, who was under the influence, had non-life threatening injuries. It is unknown if Mays or the driver were wearing seat belts, Fisher said. The release did not indicate what the driver was allegedly under the influence of or the level of impairment. Additional details about the crash, including the driver’s identity and charges they are facing, have not yet been released by the S.C.

Diane Diekman » Blog Archive » Profile of Faron Young

From a teenager who cleaned fishing boats and sold manure for fertilizer, Faron Young rose rapidly to the top of the country music charts. Faron Young, the son of penniless dairy farmers, grew up near Shreveport, Louisiana. Faron spent his Army hitch entertaining the troops and continuing to record for Capitol Records. Faron acquired a reputation for helping newcomers in the business. Another time, while shooting pool with a stranger, Faron poked the man’s misshapen stomach with his pool stick.

Upon learning the stranger couldn’t afford the operation, Faron pulled out a roll of $100 bills and peeled off enough bills to cover the cost. A piano player who had no money to get home for a funeral asked to borrow $50. Faron gave him $500 and later refused to accept repayment. A fiddle player needed a operation, and Faron gave him $1000, then got the Grand Ole Opry trust fund to pay the hospital bill. After a car wreck, Faron was hospitalized with his jaw wired shut.

The Deputies said they experienced everything they did because they loved Faron. Faron refused to work out a divorce settlement to avoid going to court. His friends and acquaintances knew they could always expect the unexpected from Faron Young.

Attorney called crash that killed off-duty police officer ‘horri

A judge set bond at $125,000 for a woman charged in a crash that killed an off-duty North Charleston police officer in Summerville Thursday night. An attorney for MacCluen’s family asked for no bond for Brooks. The judge said she set bond based on the fact Brooks has no criminal record. Many of MacCluen’s fellow officers were there as well. Troopers say Brooks was operating a 2016 Toyota 4-door and tried to make a lefthand turn across the westbound lanes of Ladson Road at which time the motorcycle driven by MacCluen struck Brooks’ car.

MacCluen was off-duty at the time of the crash and was operating his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Summerville Police closed a portion of Ladson Road Thursday night near the Cinemark Movies 8 as crews investigated the crash. Cara Grooms lived next door to MacCluen’s home where his patrol car sat untouched. MacCluen volunteered with the Cops Athletic Program’s Powder Puff Football League and was a SWAT support team member, Burgess said. A large police presence developed Thursday night into Friday morning as news spread of MacCluen’s death.

North Charleston Police lined up on Jonathan Lucas and President Streets early Friday morning near MUSC. A police procession was also seen leaving Summerville medical center around 1 a.m. after officers saluted a gurney carrying MacCluen’s body that had been draped in an American flag leaving the building. MacCluen started out as a dispatcher in 2013 and became a class-one officer on Aug. 15, 2016, according to South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Florence McCants.

‘I hurt somebody’: In DUI field tests, Charleston man referenced fatal crash

Before he completed a series of field sobriety tests after police say he struck and killed an 11-year-old girl with his SUV, Jeffrey Wakefield posed a question to an officer. Charleston police have released dashcam footage showing the moments after Wakefield, who authorities say was under the influence, drove his SUV into Selma Akguel as she walked with her father the evening of July 9 near Cannon Park on Rutledge Avenue and Calhoun Street. Akguel’s family was vacationing in Charleston from Middelfart, Denmark. After Wakefield’s Nissan Pathfinder struck the girl, police said, the vehicle continued on through the park grass and only came to a halt after it barreled into a tree. Wakefield was ultimately charged with felony DUI and reckless homicide.

Shortly before the fatal crash, police said Wakefield also struck an unoccupied parked car about a half-mile away near Rutledge Avenue and Morris Street and left the scene. During the field sobriety tests, officer Blaine Morgan had Wakefield follow a flashlight with just his eyes, walk toe-to-toe and balance on one foot while counting out loud. Police would later indicate that Wakefield’s eyes were red and glassy, his speech was slurred at times and that he stumbled when attempting to walk in a straight line. Wakefield maintained to the officer that he was not under the influence but that he was shaken and nervous. Before and after the three tests, multiple of which police said he failed, the West Ashley man on multiple occasions referenced the wreck.

Charleston WV DUI Lawyer

All that is required is that your ability to operate a vehicle has been impaired to any extent at all or that your Blood alcohol level exceeds the state limit. Some states call it DWI, but it refers to the same offense. The consequences of DUI differ drastically from state to state and are influenced by your age, blood alcohol limit, whether you have been arrested for DUI in the past, and whether you caused injury or death during the DUI. A DUI Lawyer can help… Assess your legal situation.

An experienced DUI Defense lawyer can help you understand what you are up against and the fines you may be required to pay. A DUI lawyer mostly deals with DUI matters and knows the process inside and out – including options that a public defender may not tell you. The consequences of a DUI vary greatly from state to state and a DUI lawyer will be able to explain how those consequences in your state apply to you such as harsher punishments for those arrested with BAC limits over.08, special laws for underage drivers arrested for DUI, possible community service or plea bargaining, overlapping jurisdiction of Courts and your state’s motor vehicle licensing department to suspend or revoke your license, and contingent license programs that allow you to use your vehicle to get to and from work. Dealing with the motor vehicle department can be frustrating and time consuming. A DUI Lawyer can manage the process for you by completing the required forms; making phone calls; scheduling and/or representing you at a Motor Vehicle Department suspension hearing, and making other necessary arrangements.

An experienced DUI Lawyer knows the ins and outs of the courtroom and may be able to obtain a lesser sentence for you if your situation and state law allows for it. Definitely hire a DUI Lawyer if you already have several DUI’s and receive another; or if your DUI arrest was the result of an accident or if anyone was injured; or if you are a professional driver whose livelihood depends on keeping your license. Seriously consider hiring a DUI Lawyer if you’ve been arrested for a second DUI or were arrested with a BAC limit over double the legal limit as harsher penalties may apply. You might want to hire a DUI Lawyer if you don’t understand your rights or DUI laws, what you need to do, or the consequences you face.

UCSO: Eight arrested on variety of drug charges

Eight people are behind bars after Union County deputies arrested them on a small variety of charges related to drug possession and drug trafficking. Union County sheriff David Taylor said Thursday the arrests happened overnight on July 31 after narcotic officers learned a person was driving to the city of Union to deliver illegal drugs to a motel. Officers tracked the vehicle in question and pulled the driver and passenger over as they pulled into the motel on the South Duncan Bypass. Blodgette, of Pelion, S.C. was charged with conspiracy to sell drugs.

As night became day and August 1 rolled in, officers received another tip that a woman was bringing heroin and meth to another motel in Union County. Officers saw the suspect vehicle pull in to the lot and saw four people exit the car, before doing something in the trunk and getting back in. Officers pulled over the car, and a K-9 sniff confirmed there were drugs in the car. Mcrae was charged with possession of Schedule 4 drugs with intent to distribute and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Lempesis, Jeffcoat, and Hamilton were charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

The final arrests in this round ended later in the morning on August 1 near the South Duncan Bypass, after officers received information that two more people were on their way to a nearby motel to deliver drugs. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested 35-year-old Charles Lester Knox and 37-year-old Otis Jefferson Smith. Knox, of Swanson, S.C., was charged for driving under suspension and possession of a stolen vehicle, while Jefferson, of Lexington, S.C., was charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute.

Prior to the crash, Wakefield had been with an old friend in downtown Charleston where the two ate oysters and patronized several bars, police said. During the approximately 15 or so minutes it takes to drive from the scene of the sobriety tests to the Cannon Detention Center, Wakefield talks to the officer about his attempts at sobriety and a relapse he experienced in January.

SC Sen. Paul Campbell charged with DUI in Lowcountry wreck

A South Carolina lawmaker – and chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee – is accused of lying to police after rear-ending a car in the Lowcountry, allegedly while under the influence, according to authorities. Sen. Paul Campbell, 71, of Goose Creek, was charged with DUI and providing false information to police, according to Charleston County jail records. Troopers eventually determined that Campbell was driving the 2017 Mercedes SUV, Collins said. After Campbell failed field sobriety tests, he was charged with DUI and providing false information to police.

No injuries were reported in the collision, which Collins said caused minor damage to both vehicles. Campbell provided a breath sample that yielded a.09 percent blood-alcohol content, Collins said. Campbell’s wife Vicki, who was the passenger in the car, also was charged with providing false information to police, Collins said. Campbell, who has represented Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties in the S.C. Senate since 2007, chairs the Senate Ethics Committee.

Savage represented Michael Slager, a white former North Charleston police officer who fatally shot a black motorist named Walter Scott in April 2015. Campbell was released from jail late Sunday morning on personal recognizance, according to online court records. Providing false information to police is a misdemeanor that carries up to 30 days in jail or a $200 fine, under South Carolina law. First-time DUI offenders face a misdemeanor charge and a maximum 30-day jail sentence, as well as a fine and court costs.
